Olympic Wintergames Salt Lake City 2002 (08.-24.02.2002)

All results here

I think most of you know that in the Olympic Wintergames there have been some controversial decisions by the referees,
especially in the men's 1500m A-Final.
As you can see in my guestbook many people take the decisions of the referees for faults. I also got some emails about this subject.
Due to the obvious need of discussion I opened a forum. I am going to write some reports about the short track competition and am going
to tell you my opinion about this. Also a report (with photos) about the German Olympic youth camp I was in will come up soon.

I searched for some videos, and found these ones here. Build you your own opinion and write it in my forum!

Video of the 1000m Men's Final:
Whole final curve (1,3MB)
Scene with Ahn and Ohno (210k)

Here's a link to a site where the whole story is explained and also some other decisions of the referees which are casted doubts on.

First I thought that it's perhaps just a bit excitement of the Koreans, but when I finally went to watch my video tapes and searched
for useful material in the internet, I came to the perception that there went very much wrong in these competitions!!!

There were not only faults by the referees in the 1000m and 1500m finals. One race of the 500m, Nicola Franceschina was disqualified because he made 2 fault starts. I watched the tape about 10 times. I hardly saw the first fault start. But I can tell you: There was NO second fault start made by Franceschina. Marc Gagnon was the one which made the second fault start!!!

After all these wrong decisions, I claim that the rules must be changed. Video analysis has to be allowed, at least at such important competitions!!!

Please write your opinion concerning these or other things in my forum/guestbook!
