Short Track - what´s that?

General:
Short Track - what´s that? - some of you might think. In my opinion Short Track Speedskating is one of the most thrilling ice-sports on this planet. 4 to 5 skaters compete against each other on a 111m long track in an ordinary hockey stadium. Contrary to the classic speedskating where you skate against the clock the athletes compete against each other in packstyle. The first to cross the finish line after the given distance is the winner. According to the number of participents in one group skaters have to qualify by finishing first or second in the qualifying heats and move up to the next level (quarterfinal, semifinal, final).

Tracks:
Official track distances are: 500m, 1000m, 1500m and 3000m. All these distances are performed in Germany.
